I have been wanting to make one of these for a long time! I was going to wait until I got some oak, but I saw that padauk sitting in the corner and I just got my new tap and die. So I used it, I know expensive wood for just a vise but what the heck I am not going to use that wood anymore anyway. I thought I would jazz it up a little with some neat looking finials for the handles I hope you like it, thanks for looking.

Sacrificial Padauk ? Wow !
I just saw The Woodwright Show today and he and Chris Schwarz were praising these up and down. There’s no end to the versatility of this vise : ) Nice job !

Very cool, and nice added detail re: the finials!

Very nice! Did you also make the wooden threaded rods?

I like the vise with the padauk, gives this device an nice looking flair, especially with the finial screws. Reminds me of the top end hand tools available in the market place now with their high price tags.
I’m curious about your tap and die set. I’ve heard bad things about some of these commercially available sets. Maybe you can provide a Review on the set you purchased.
Thanks for showing.

Nice vise. I have often thought of such a “light duty” vise for my assembly table. I think the Paduka looks great. I have some Brazilian Cherry that might accent my granite top, got some wood threaded rod too. Thanks for the inspiration.

A vise can never be too fancy, that’s what I always say. Nice job, and I really like those knobs.
