This bench was built using old barnwood that makes up an interesting combination of redwood, fir, and oak. I used pegged mortise and tenon joints through. It turned into a fairly stout bench (the 4×4 legs added a lot of weight). For more photos and a more descriptive explanation of the build process check out this link:

the bread board ends on it give it character as well
I would not have thought of that for a bench

great piece. I plan to start a 5-board bench next week. You idea might be soon after. If so I will send you a pic and some cred!
