I tore down a 100 year old barn last spring and have started using the lumber for my projects. This project is a coat rack. I repurposed ratcheting drills for hangers and hammered a copper cap for the top. This link provides more pictures and a more detailed explanation. Let me know what you think.

Very nice Mat! I am surprised that you have not received more comments about your work?! The use of old egg beater drills is very good!! Very creative indeed and if your grandfather is a woodworker, I think it should be very well received :-) The rings look about big enough to hook the curved handle of an umbrella.

How’s the stability of the rack? Have you used wordpress blog for awhile? I have been toying with the idea of getting into it..

Thanks for the positive remarks! My grandpa did appreciate the gift. He had a few of the egg beater drills himself but I couldn’t get them from him without him getting suspicious so I collected them as I went until I had enough with good wood on them. I actually just started using wordpress. It’s great in terms of being user friendly. I know next to nothing about writing code. With wordpress you don’t need to know. It has many standard formats that look great. It’s definitely worth it. When I started looking for inspiration and ideas for the barnwood I was at a loss for a long time. So, I thought posting things that I come up with might help others in that process… hence the blog haha. If you end up starting one be sure to send me the link.
