This is my first posting. Roughly one year ago, I began whittling roosters from birch branches after getting the book “Whittling Twigs and Branches” from our local library. Since then, I’ve whittled more birds than I care to count, probably close to 300, using a simple utility knife. I mounted most of these birds either individually on a small branch base or a few together. This picture shows a variety of birds mounted on an 18” diameter base surrounded by a fence consisting of whittled fence posts and thin wooden rails. It’s now hanging on my office wall and is generating many comments. I have enjoyed looking at projects on this site for a few weeks now and hope that some of you will enjoy this – Thanks for looking!

Birchbranch – welcome to LJ’s. I love your carvings. I do a bit of whittling myself from time to time and find it
very satisfying and relaxing. There is a lot to be said for a hobby that costs nothing.
Keep them coming.

Welcome to LJ. Those are great. Be careful with your browsing of all these projects, it gets addictive! : )

I got the same book from the library & have enjoyed carving a few for my wife as she collects chickens
