My first carvers mallet. I have always wanted to make one and having some 16/4 hard maple lying around I finally had a go at it. I am pleased with how it turned out. This was sanded with 220 on the lathe and then I hit it with some steel wool (also wile on the lathe). I am not sure how to finish it so feel free to share any ideas. I was tempted to just wax it.

nice work – bad day to be a chisel. I would just wax it, but that’s probably just me.

One curvaceous mallet, like the wood and the wood grain. Looking good already.

Nice Mallet Dave, I like a once piece when that is possible.
