Black Cherry and Black Walnut all scraps from cutting boards I had some sap wood of both species in this peel and a friend stopped over little while ago she looked at it a long time and said it was ok but she could never buy it because of the sap wood and heart wood colors bothered her it did not look balanced to her eye…. I found that interesting I like the color variation
It will accommodate a 16” pie I like the short handle so you can park the peel right at the table to serve it…kept it thin 3/8” so it is lighter and I also moved the handle more into the body of the peel giving it more strength in the design and it looks better I think…

Just Beautiful, I’d be to scared to use it. I’d hang it on a wall as a display. Well done.

Cheers Tony,

Gorgeous!
Agree with you, I like the color variations of using sap wood.

Nice job on the peel.

When I use variations in a piece of wood and in a situation where there is a mirror image presented I try to get both side of the mirror image to reflect it’s opposite. I thought your board represented well those challenges.

Someone pointed another unintended consequent in the handle detail being phallus looking…ok I can see that to I guess and the weird colors variation in the wood thanks Karson , thanks for the encouragement you guys….we shall see if I can find a home for this mutant colored X-Rated Pizza Peel

The gal that commented on the variation in color is right on! Everyone knows that the color of a peel affects the taste of the Pizza! Some people just have different perspectives and priorities, I guess.

Seriously Jeff it’s a beautiful piece of work. Nice job. I’m sure it will have no problem finding a home.

Nice looking peel,as for sapwood, I like the contrast, and use it myself in my cutting boards. I have made two Pizza Peels, and one of them is very similar to yours. I have them posted here in LJ if you care to look at them, but their owners give them the same treatments, a HANGING
