Every once in a while I’ll get a far request for my furniture. This one came from Kailua Hawaii. Originally the customer wanted to trade. This Murphy bed from two weeks in their Hawaii rental. I turned it down due to the even the expense of getting my family their. With it being winter time at home, I am kicking myself now!

I finished this up in December 2012. With only a few weeks travel time, it arrived in one piece and installed by the customer. They loved it. I even got a great post and pictures on my facebook page ”Chris helped us finally get a perfect Murphy Bed for our Hawaii Home! We priced these beds here in Honolulu and just found particle board crappy manufactured beds for 10,000.00 dollars! Chris made us a work for art for half the price plus shipping! Thank you Chris and everyone at wwbeds!”

This is my Smithsonian Murphy Wall Bed with a hidden desk. The desk fold up for extra room and so that be bed can come down.

On the bookcases I put locks on each drawer. Keyed the same on the left and then on the right.

Great looking project. What kind of wood and finish did you use? You must have the largest number of projects of any other “lumberjock”.

On this project I used Maple wood and the finish was actually matched off a photo sent by the customer (didn’t have time to send a shelf). If my memory serves me, I started with a Gunstock from Minwax and adjusted the color with other stains.

I clear it with a Pre-Catalyzed sanding sealer, and the top coat it with t pre-catalyzed lacquer with a satin sheen.

What a great project and story! We are big fans of this Lumberjock and the beds he produces. We are looking into buying this very bed from him. As a fellow Lumberjock were kicking around buying this bed pre-cut from him and doing the finishing work ourselves. Even with the shipping it looks like it is better to go in this direction allowing saving us time and money. He is very helpful with any questions you have as well. One great looking bed.

Ken, this bed may be hard to do as a pre-cut. Email me at cdavis9699@sbcglobal.net and I’ll send you may notes on it and plans for the basic murphy bed if you can understand the merge. I took real good notes last time, because I have to keep reinventing the wheel on it. I am building another one in this style in a week and I’ll double check my cut list.

Thanks for the comments.

That Murphy bed rocks – figuratively, of course.

Nice work.
