This 39” diameter dining table expands to 9’3”. it’s got 4 18” leaves with the same inlay as the table center. The central burl inlay was shop cut from one slab of big leaf maple burl. The 1/16th” circular ebony lines were bent using a shop made hot pipe. The edge inlay and hollow column parts are shop made and there are many more photos and process descriptions on my blog at http://dorsetcustomfurniture.blogspot.com/2008/02/round-expanding-table.html
Check it out if you have a minute

Dan,
This is a beautiful table. The inlays and design of the base add some really nice details to the piece.
Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful table! And given the size it expands to, a most versatile table as well. Very well done.
I don’t quite get the mechanism that supports the leaves, but I’ll study your pictures some more and hopefully it’ll become clear.
Cheers,
Kerry

I have to admit, I’ve never heard the phrase hot pipe before. I’ve seen inlay banding, but always on a soldering iron clamped in a vise, or something similar.

Very, very nice. A true inspiration. Lots of details all around (pun intended).
Your site is excellent too.
