John,
I made the blade also from a piece of steel. I use a sharpie to draw the blade shape on steel, use a a metal cutting blade on my jig saw and an angel grinder to cut the blade shape. Then I use the belt sander to smooth the shape and create the edge. The Walnut handles are then epoxied with brass pins going through.
Lots of YouTube videos under knife making to learn this art.
