Contempory Round End Table

I just finished making a new round contemporary end table for our recently remodeled family room and thought I’d add the project to my LJ projects page. The finish that I used on the table was the same that I had used on my built-in library project and the TV Cabinet that we have placed in the same room.

I used an Orange TransTint® wood dye on the wood, which is quarter sawn white oak, and then after it had soaked in and dried, I applied some Dark Walnut gel stain over all these dyed surfaces. This really makes the rays and flecks of the oak “pop” out at you. You probably can’t see in the picture how effective this is but it is really beautiful in real life.

As I have always done here on LJ projects, I have a complete build process article on my website of this table for anyone who might be interested in the building of this table here.

It has a classy contemporary look. Really nice.

Beautiful design. Very nice.
However it looks like it might become a little tippy if it is set on carpet.

I’ll try to get a couple more pictures of this table added to the project page and “ohwoodeye”, I thought the same thing when building this table. I thought that it not only looked top heavy….it is. But surprisingly enough, it doesn’t even begin to tip. I had it sitting on a hallway carpet and never had it to tip but on a heavier carpet, you could be right. I guess for us, where we’re using it, we should be alright.

Nice work Dave! It’s beautiful, I had the same thought at first that it might be top heavy but sounds like it works ok.

Fantastic end table! Like the design esp. the legs, the wood grain with stain and finish really popped out.
