This wall shelf with two drawers measures just under three feet in length. The back panel is a stunning piece of spalted sycamore which was the inspiration for the design, which is entitled “Seascape”, as the spalting looks like an ocean with caves and clouds. The shelf is ambrosia maple, chosen for the appearance of beach sands at low tide. The two drawers are curly maple, faced with walnut burl and have Spanish cedar bottoms, and small turned ebony knobs.
Construction is all hand cut dovetails. The mounting locations for the unit are behind each of the two drawers. The finish is many coats of shellac, hand rubbed to a high gloss.

This piece was designed for a gallery show “In The Grain”, which focused on the natural beauty of wood. This piece is available for sale.

Beautiful! My favorite pieces of “furniture” are those that showcase the natural qualities of the weed being used. Great job!

Beautiful work. How are each of the drawers attached to the main shelf? I see the dovetails on the corners. Is the main shelf attachment a stopped dado?
