Pretty lame, considering all the great stuff I see here, but I am proud of my first attempts since high school wood shop. This got my juices flowing and allowed me to continue to work on the design of the shop to allow for other projects. Nothing too fancy, but functional and not too many significant errors; I welcome any comments or suggestions!

Great project that the fine feathered friends will really enjoy. Thank you for sharing.

This is a nice project. I had one very similar to it but it took such a beating from the squirrels that I had to finally replace the top and side rails. They get mad at me when it runs out of sunflower seeds and start chewing on the sides. Finally they knocked the top off of it (I had it bungied on for convenience of filling) and broke it.

If yours is anything like mine it is a squirrel feeder since they seem to get the bulk of the seed.

Thanks for the post.

this is great…if you read my profile you will see that I started again after a long layoff…of about 25 years!!! Starting simple…my start was with a firewood box and carrying rack combo—-and that was it…started building more and more…congrats and good luck on your journey!!! you found a great place to learn and share your pitfalls and successes (LJ’s)...

That is a great looking bird feeder. I have heard that if you mount it on a PVC pole the squirrels can’t climb it. I haven’t tried it though. Nice project….keep it up!

Yeah the PVC trick might save you a lot of squirrel raids. Or just get a squirrel baffle, I have two and while they dont keep the bears out it sure pisses off the squirrels and chip munks. You can see the “can” on the pole.

Great project, keep it up, and I love the little snowman in your icon :)

The really nice thing about it is the 50th project will give you as much joy as the first.

All true statements. Welcome and that is a great first project. You should be proud of your skills. Like I said before, “If someone can be proud to post pics of a pile of boards, then I can be proud of my little project” Nice job. Keep on posting and all projects are welcome here.

Thank you all for the kind words! I will have to look at squirrel proofing as the lazy little buggers have already found the easy meal!
