Pictured: I have nicknamed this box the colossus, This box is made out of walnut and alder as the core, it has all the room, bells, whistles and more that a man could ever want in a valet box, I’d even go as for as to say it’s the ultimate men’s valet box with all of it’s large drawers and storage space, this mammoth features three very… large drawers, top right drawer measuring in at 6 1/2” long x 4 3/4” wide x 2” deep with a small pull out tray 4” x 2 3/4”, the bottom left drawer measuring 6 1/2” x 4 3/4” wide x 1 1/2” deep it also includes a hidden drawer measuring at 4” wide x 5 3/4 long x 1” deep, the bottom right drawer is the largest also housing a large pull out tray that reveals even more storage under it, measurements on the drawer are 6 1/2” long x 6” wide x 1 3/4” depth under the tray, the tray measures 5 3/4 long x 5 1/4” wide x 1 1/2” deep, but wait there’s more here comes the kitchen sink, the top right side of the box has a false bottom door that reveals even a larger area for storage it measures 6 1/8” front to back x 5 3/4” from left to right x 2 3/8” deep, not done yet the small pull out tray is the key to secretly opening the top false door to reveal the hidden compartment on top. The total measurements of this box are 12 3/4” from left to right, 7” from front to back and 71/2” tall this is once again one of my creations a hybrid with inner core bandsaw box and a wrapping with mitered corners traditional box.

Story: The way this box came about was a commission, after one of my valet boxes was viewed, I was contacted by way of email a lady asking if I could build something custom, she wanted it specified to her husbands needs, she wanted it 8” tall, 8” deep and 13+ inches wide due to my bandsaw limits and the technique used in making this box I was limited in size, but I managed to push it to the max, meaning the length max of 13” and the depth for cutting at 7”. I was pondering in my head if the hidden storage on top would be large enough to house a pocket pistol so early this afternoon I bagged the box up and took it to the gun counter at a local academy store in which the clerk was able to place not only a pocket pistol but also a compact slightly larger then a pocket pistol in the compartment along with a magazine the compact he placed in the compartment was a 9mm so any pocket sized and some compact size pistols will fit. Out of all of the valet boxes that I’ve built I now know what I am able to do and also this is the box I want on my dresser as well.

Randy- This design is very cool but I’m afraid I would need an instruction manual to operate all the hidden/secret compartments! These have definately become your signature pieces. Congrats on the sales/commissions.

Wow that’s a big box Randy. But why not, I have taken every box I have made and reduced it down to 1/3 size…why not larger. OH WAIT…only 13 3 /4” long….I see a 18” bandsaw in your future.

Here I was going to post a few boxes I just finished but not sure I want be laughed off the forum.

You now have your own “signature” piece! Congratulations! However, you really need to publish the user’s manual so we can appreciate the hidden intricacies and fully understand how to use it. ;-) Another, great job.
