the dream sewing room for a repeat client. the hickory theme carries thru with the previous work i’ve done in their house.
photo #1 overall shot after she filed every space available, she decided to thin out some supplies. she does embroidery, quilting and designing her own work.
photo #2 this is her movable island, 6ft x 4ft when closed, the wings are 2ft x 6ft so the overall open table is 8ft x 6ft. the one wing has a light table in it for illuminating patterns for tracing and transferring.
photo #3 this is the light table wing in the down position. used a pc of plexiglass with LED lighting underneath and a pegboard back for air flow in case of heat build up. ( LED’s don’t get hot enough but she was happier i allowed for the heat to escape)
photo #4 this was the second machine lift installed for her serger and the first was put into the island for her main machine. i also made interchange able plates for other machines. the lifts allow the machines to be below the countertop for a smooth work surface, raised to flush for use, and raised above for changing needles and accessories.
photo #5 i designed 2 banks of 5 drawers side by side for her different types of thread, there is a pegboard bottom insert and then 1/4 inch dowels to keep the threads from moving around in the drawer, i think that i needed 300-400 dowels.
Photo #6 so to cut a lot of 1/4 inch dowels i wrapped them in clear wrap tightly and the cut them on the miter saw as if they were one big piece of wood, and the wrap kept them from flying all over as they ranged from 2” to 4” in length.
overall the project was fun to build after countless trips and hours designing for her needs, as everybody has different ways to do their sewing. the space is uniquely set up for my clients needs and she is now the envy of her fellow crafters. now i have 2 more spaces to start designing for others and we’‘ll see where they go. tanks for viewing and commenting.
