This is my masterpiece. I was inspired by a Thos. Moser table and wanted to build something that would replace our tiny dining table, and be able to seat 10 when fully extended.

The middle leg is split in half, and each side forms a tripod, so the table is very sturdy when extended. There are two leaves, which are undergoing final sanding and prep for finishing. The finish is three coats of danish oil (four on the top) followed by two coats of wax. I was a little hesitant to do this finish for a dining table, but I love the look of this finish on cherry, and since I applied it originally, it will be easy for me to touch it up when needed.

This has been the most ambitious thing I’ve tried, and after sinking $1,000 into it for the lumber, I was under a lot of pressure to deliver. I think it turned out great.

If you’re interested in more details of the construction, check out my blog: www.oakparkwoodworker.com.

Nothing says it better than going for broke, man. Being an Arts & Crafts builder myself, I’m here to tell you that this is great stuff. Nice clean lines, simple, timeless, Craftsman design that your grandkids’ grandkids will appreciate. I love it when builders aren’t afraid to use good thick lumber. As always, bbqKing

Bob,

You did a wonderful job on this table. I am a fan of arts and crafts furniture and cherry is my favorite wood with which to work. What is not to like about this table!!!!

Thanks for posting this. You just made my day.

Very nice job on this table, Bob. The cherry will change into a really nice patina over the years. Did you make the chairs too?

Tim, the chairs are Crate and Barrel, so no credit to me. But was a lot faster than if I made them!

Bob well done, I love the cherry, I’m sure this will be well worth the investment. When your eating on it and a grandchild asks where the table came from, you won’t think about the money, you’ll just have a great story to tell.

Thanks for the post.
