I got a set of the new Stanley Sweethearts and I figured it was time to retire my long used Irwin chisels. At least retire them to rough use. The thing I always hated about the Irwin’s was that terribly ugly blue plastic handle. I mean what in the world were they thinking?

These handles were made from walnut I had on hand and finished with three coats of waterborne finish. The following link details my process with pictures.

These turned out nice and will only get better looking as time goes by and they get the patina of use on them.

These look great. The original handles are shaped so the don’t roll off the bench but their not as good looking as these.

Way more good looking now than the old ones. Great turning and the choice of wood.
