Last weekend at the woodworking show, my wife and I picked up an acrylic casting kit from Barry Gross. It’s a nice kit and VERY simple to use. My wife decided to make a pen out of her favorite fabric. I think it came out awesome. I ended up turning it for her. The custom acrylic turned and polished so much easier than the off the shelf blanks I bought. SUPER sharp tools were required though. I have an easy rougher and easy finisher, but I didn’t feel they were sharp enough, even with brand new edges. I am good at sharpening my HSS stuff, so I used a couple gouges and a skew.

Nice work on the pen! That casting kit is another great way to unique items that can’t be bought off of the store shelf.
