January, 2013—Old kitchen cutting boards are great raw materials for wood craft projects such as this band saw box. This one has three layers of wood sandwiched between two cutting boards. The front cutting board is kind of fancy, with stripes of various hard woods.
Old cutting boards are usually very beat up, with knife marks and food stains. So the first step is to run them through the thickness planer until they clean up.
The handle for the drawer is made from a piece of the cutting board that was cut off. I crafted it such that the pattern would match the drawer front itself. This box is sanded to 220 and finished in tung oil. This project was fun to make and the end result exceeded my expectations. Thanks for looking.

I love bandsaw boxes, and this one is really nice and a great use of otherwise wasted wood. I was just at goodwill today looking for one, (no luck). My band saw only has a 3” cut so as soon as I upgrade a bandsaw box will be my first project with it. I can’t wait.
