Here are a couple of gates that I made for a friend because the old ones were declared dead after 15 years. I eventually lowered the one that you see installed but you get the idea. Made from 2×4 side rails and bottom cut down to 2 inches. The top is from 2 layers of 3/4×10” glued together after I cut them to the arch with a skill saw. I obviously did some sanding to smooth the pieces together. The small horizontal pieces are from the 3/4” board. I am trying to convince my friend that I need to replace his fence too. Loved the smell of cedar and it cuts so nicely. I was also surprised how relatively inexpensive the wood was. It wasn’t the aromatic stuff but it wasn’t super expensive either. If you do cedar make sure you mention that you want as few knots in the wood as possible. I bought a limited amount and had to really organize my cuts to avoid the knots where possible.
