Another cherry bowl

This is the sister blank to my last natural edge bowl. The blank had a crack that went a few inches up so I cut it out and made the smaller bowl. It is about 9” x 5”. I put the lip at the top and I am thinking maybe coming back later and making a lid for it. Just a though.

I would welcome any suggestions as to what finish to apply. I am new at finishing and have only used Capt Eddie’s OB shine juice. I like it but I also want to try other finishes. Don’t really know goes well with cherry.

I have one more log blank left and hope I can get at least 2 more bowl from it. I now got to go looking for wood again.

The bowl is made of cherry and so far unfinished.

GREAT BOWL DEWAYNE. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL OUT OF CHERRY AND I USE POLY OR LACQUER. THEY BOTH BRING OUT THE GRAIN OF THE WOOD AND ARE A DURABLE FINISH.

Thanks for the comments.

I enjoy turning cherry but I also liked the hickory I was using earlier. I want to try some other species though.

Have you decided on a finish yet for this bowl? Just curious. I think a top would be an appropriate addition since you’ve got the lip here. Looks good so far!

Jonathan I haven’t finished it yet. I have this bad habit of moving on once I get it this far. I have finished some cherry bracelets I made for my wife in the Shine Juice and may just use it. I haven’t really got into finishing yet. In years past when I would make something my wife did the sanding and finishing but she doesn’t do it anymore so I am having to learn.

I may try a diff species for a lid if I make one. Don’t know yet.

Thanks for the comments.
