While I was finishing my pine wood boot yesterday, we got a 21cm dump of snow. Luckily, it settled softly and the pictures show the winter beauty!
The pine block came from a log house that I helped to renovate. Didn’t want to throw the wood into the fire, so I cut a blank for this boot. The log house is thirty years old and the logs were a minimum 12 inches in diameter. The wood had been seasoned but a few cracks are evident and I was able to carve the boot with little or no incident.
The wood grain and boot shape seemed to work together. I finished the piece with spray lacquer to show the intricacies of the grain.
PS There are only 63 days till the Eagles return on their fly pass to Alaska. Spring will have arrived!!!!

Great job Roman I never thought a boot could have so much character.

That is a very cold…. uh, I mean ‘cool’ looking boot. Do you keep count on how many of these you make? You certainly have done your share of rescuing firewood….. No doubt about that.

-- I just got done cutting three boards and all four of them were too short. (true story)

Thanks for all the comments. There are more boots, spoons and bird carvings yet to come! Must save as much wood as I can. RH
