Hi everyone, This project was nearly 15 years in the making as my wife has been after me that long for just such a thing.
I kept telling her that it was on my list of things to do..as we all have the famous “honey do” list ..well it was finally her turn. Christmas came about and after 20 years of marriage I have found it harder and harder to surprise her however just once in a while the Lord will allow a bit of respite. He provided not only the idea but the web site .. www.diynetwork.com/how-to/how-to-build-a-rustic-wood-headboard/index.html….not to mention the wood ..would you folks believe all of this wood is reclaimed decking ? Yep it’s true..folks in parts of Md are rich enough they would use mahogany as decking ..and much to their surprise it actually will warp if not treated..who knew ..My dad was asked to remove and replace …guess who he asked to dispose of the bad wood …? Which was done in a very cost effective manner ..meaning it went into my pick up truck post hast..
of course in all good commonsense I could not charge a fee for such a service ..
Anyway.. the head board was very easy to assemble following the web site mentioned above however I made a few adjustments like adding a champher edge to the boards rather than flat and I left off the top board.I think this is such a sound design that you could add a lot of things that would make it more personal …a light coat of golden pecan stain ..followed by 2 cans of gloss lacquer and 3 coats of past wax. It was delivered Christmas evening and she nearly cried …what more can be asked for.

I like it. And reclaimed wood to boot. What’s not to like. Our Lab/Dane cross loves my wife’s bed and she HATES all the black hair he leaves behind.
