I recently acquired a free lathe – well, almost free, I agreed to pay $40 for it. It’s a lousy lathe (Cummins) but it was good enough to spin a cylindrical wood stand that I needed to sand for another project. The lathe also came with a few inexpensive turning tools. Having no experience with any of these things, I did some research and made a stab at sharpening the tools. Then, just before Christmas, I put a scrap piece of walnut in the lathe and started turning. A bit of sanding and some BLO, this Christmas tree ornament was the result. It was kinda fun! (One of these days I may have to invest in a decent lathe.)

Nice looking ornament. I always have fun turning on the lathe and the small projects are quick and great practice. It does get kind of addicting.
