A friend of mine is a tattoo artist that specializes in traditional Japanese. I made him this box a while back to keep supplies in and used one of his dragon head designs to ornament the top. The box is Cherry with Maple top and bottom. The corners are mitered with Wenge keys installed for support.

I drew the dragon from a picture of his work and then used carbon paper to transfer it onto the top. The lines were then burnt into the wood. The wood burner I have is just the cheap kind you find in any hobby store but works ok. The box was finished with 4 coats of Shellac.

It was a fun project to make and he was thrilled with the box.

Nice Dragon box Chris. I like the wood burning. By the way, Lumberjocks mispelled your name and put a “D” in there.

Looks good Chris. If you want some other dragon design ideas, but these are “Western” ones, have a look for the “Great Book of Dragon Patterns” by Lora S. Irish, or another book “Tom Wolfe Carves Dragons”.
It’s nice to see the “Eastern” style though. Thanks for sharing.
