I made this set for my wife’s birthday. I got the basic idea of how to do this from the link below. I have never worked with carving tools before, so I considered incurring only 3 minor flesh wounds during the whole process to be a pretty solid effort. I did cheat towards the end and used a belt sander to round the handles. The carving tools were awesome to work with and in excellent condition, courtesy of my generous father-in-law and is fully stocked/equipped shop. I had a blast making these and definitely plan on doing some more carving in the future. I used a butcher block oil to finish them off…the only thing I didn’t consider was that I should have raised the grain prior to sanding and using them, since the butcher block oil didn’t create much of a barrier. Live and learn.
