This is a small box that I made for a friend who lives in Portugal that i will be visiting. The Birdseye Maple I choose for the top and bottom have marks that resemble seagulls. It really makes a project special when you can find something in the wood that give you project special meaning or character. In the center of the box is Makore with has a wave like grain pattern. I sanded the box down to 320 grit and finished it with three coats of General Clear Coat. Living on the east coast of the United States and Portugal on the west coast of Europe separated by the Atlantic ocean the seagull on the box give this project and gift a little special meaning.

Beautiful box! I guess you could call that bird’s-eye maple, seagull maple!
