This is a keepsake box I made as a gift about a year ago. Made of all solid African mahogany, even the top and the bottom. The inlay is of canarywood and walnut. Splines are maple. I took the Woodwhisperer’s design for the inlay. Used some nice Brusso hardware and a lock from Rockler, which is pretty flimsy really, secured only with brass nails that really don’t hold that well. I had a hard time with the hinge installation too. Mainly just brain farts. You can see where I cut the mortise in the wrong location and had to patch it, which didn’t turn out too noticeable. I don’t recall the exact dimensions, but I believe I made it big enough to hold 8×10 paper. Finish is satin arm-r-seal and minwax.

Hey this looks great! Your patch is only a tattle tale if you tell. You matched it up pretty well.

Nice job….the mahogany looks rich and expensive. I have brain farts almost every single project. Actually, sometimes its a deviation that makes an improvement. In your case, you did a great job in fixing it. The inlay is great!
