Wanted to make a ‘different’ lamp for my drafting table last summer. Came up with this after seeing a couple different ideas on-line. Turns out it’s too big for the drafting table but the grandkids love it in their area of the room. Since it is all wood, except for the giant ball bearings in the base for weight, I used an LED lamp instead of a hot incandescent bulb. It helps make it safer in the event of a tip over too.

I think you need to build a small light stand to put beside your drafting table to use that Great looking Lamp

hunter71 stole my thoughts. First thing I thought was how cool, looks like an errector set but in wood.
Now you gotta build a floor model!
