Another Holiday project complete. A basic rolling kitchen Island with a solid butcher block top (not End grain though) There is nothing really special about the construction with the exception of solving a vent problem.
The recipient choice place of storage for the cabinet happens to be directly over a floor vent and did not want to lose the air from the vent if a cabinet was placed over it.. So I came up with a false bottom idea the vent sits right under the reinforced cork skirt. This very effectively redirects the air through the false bottom opening and the bottom shelf. The air is vented out underneath the toe kick as can be seen in the last photo.
I searched for an existing method of addressing the problem without success. Well to be truthful there were a few ideas out there but cutting holes in the sides was just not an option…
The cabinet is unfinished without extra hardware as requested. There is a special color mix that he intends to use to match the other cabinets in the kitchen. And to adress the question upfront, no the cabinet drawers were not routed backwards this is want matched what allready exists.
Comments appreciated, thanks for looking
