I made this as a gift for my wife for Christmas.
It is made from Cherry and Maple. The inlay was tricky as it was my first time. I cut out the letters on the scroll saw (first time using that too) and tidied up with hand files. The inlay was done with a router to hog out the waste and then chisels to get the edges right. A couple of areas that on my next attempt could be better, but I am happy for a first try. More importantly, my wife is happy with it.
The finish was two coats of danish oil topped off with paste wax.
This was a gift that will keep on giving as the kids get older and the height marks get higher up the board. Just hope neither will be NBA material else they will be off the top!

I say you did a fine job. I have wanted to do something like that. Did you see the wood whisper video on inlay? I was wondering if you did it like that.
Anyways , that is an unique project and you did a great job!
