I posted this project before when it had it’s 1st coat of Seikens Cedar stain. ( http://lumberjocks.com/projects/74986 ) The guy I took the course from said Seikins was the best stain and he’s been carving totem poles for about 25 years. http://www.muskokaartsandcrafts.com/Members'_Studios/Members/Hill/hill.htm
These pictures are after the second coat and it has a bit more shine and a lot more life. I made this for my wife and she had planned to paint some parts of it – the Thunderbird’s beak, some parts of the wing, etc. After the 1st coat it was much more orange than she / we expected. It took her a long time for her to decide whether she would put on a 2nd coat of the same stain. It has been sitting in our great room for some time now and we have grown used to the colour and like it so much she’s probably not going to paint anything.
I’m not sure why the picture of the beaver looks different than the first 2. It may just be the lighting or it may be that the bottom half was made from a different bass wood log. There is a difference between the two halve but not that great
