Under Stairs Storage

So my last few months have been to accomplish actually building a shop. Lived in the house for four years. Gutted the whole place over that time period and remodeled most of the rooms. Recently added a new 18 X 16 foot TV room in the back overlooking yard. Nicknamed that one “The Kennel”.

So now that Wifey is somewhat happy ( of course I still have a pantry , bar, and some other todos to do ) I convinced her that having a shop that is actually functional would also help in her long term happiness. ;-) i.e. projects would get done faster and there would be more organization in the garage area. In the last four years it has been the staging place for every project.

I attached pictures of the garage during staging and one run to the dump for garage demo.

So the first thing was to create some additional storage so I proceeded to build drawers in an area under the stairs that go down to the basement. They are now all in and and its a great addition. I will either build drawer fronts or doors in front of them. Waiting to see how I use them before deciding on which approach. I must give accolades to a great youtube video showing how to frame and trim out this type of built in.

This is my first project post. I once posted a review of Festool’s Track Saw and got mauled because I happen to criticize someone else’s product…. So please I have just gotten over that trauma!

Thx

Gary

Gary I don’t think I would add drawer fronts or doors because it really looks very nice the way it is and it shows off your skill as a craftsman better than drawer fronts or doors. It just looks very good as it is.

thanks for buying the flooring from lumber liquidators. hope it turned out well. When we finish our basement my wife wants us to do an under stairs storage area. I had just assumed cabinets, but i love the increased functionality of drawers. nice job!

Nice use of the space. I agree about showing it off but then again the cabinets may be a good way to keep dust off of everything.

Sorry to hear about your first post, hope we will see some more from you.

Great idea and an excellent way to use the space under the stairs. Thanks.
