Seen these bottle opener kits on LJ and lo and behold, they were on sale for $4.99 (until December 28th, so get ‘em while you can) on Woodcraft.com. Regular price is $8.99.

I’m not much for turning so I decided to do one like you would a BBQ Fork handle. Also it makes for better engraving. When you buy the kit, it tells you to epoxy the kit into the hole you drill. I decided to try and tap the handle and see where it got me. No good on mahogany. The wood was too soft. I’m sure tapping would work on rock maple though….. So I ended up epoxying the kit into the handle anyways. I used a 3/4 diameter rare earth magnet on the back so that it sticks to the fridge. At first I just used hot glue for that but that darn magnet is POWERFUL and came off after a couple pulls. Had to epoxy that one too…..

Nice, I picked up about a dozen of those last week when I saw they were on sale. Looking forward to making them, I like you unturned approach. How thick is the wood you used?

I used 1 inch by 1.75 inch by 6.5 inch long. I just made a maple one last night and the tapping method works fine, at least I think it does. It’s a tight and snug fit. But only the test of time will tell.
