I WAS AT THE STORE ABOUT TO BUY A DESK THAT COST $500, WHEN I LOOKED AT THE DESK CLOSER I SAW THAT I COULD HAVE DONE THE DESK CHEAPER. SO I WAITED AND GLAD I DID. I STOPPED BY THE JUNK STORE WHEN I SAW A OLD STEELCASE DESK THAT WAS TAKEN OUT OF A SCHOOL, IT ONLY COST $15 SO I GOT IT. AND THIS IS WHAT I ENDED UP WITH.

Nice save … I’m very tempted to make a comment about a beat up old desk with a new top … but I won’t
I have thought about the same thing in the past, never did it … so now I’m jealous.
Was the orig top bolted on from the bottom?? and the new top the same??

THE ORIGINAL TOP WAS BOLTED FROM THE BOTTOM. I USED THE OLD METAL TOP TO MAKE A PIECE OF WALL ART FOR MY OFFICE.

I love the top as wall art. Very cool project all around.

What a great idea. I sure like your thinking. Not only is Steelcase far higher quality than the $500 desk, you saved a ton of money, and were able to reuse something. Excellent!

Hi, nice project. I have same desk, am having some trouble removing the original desk top, I got all the screws out but it appears that there is something else holding it down.

Have your say...
