I’m holding off starting my next chair until after the holidays and have been using my time in the shop over the last few days to work on some smaller projects and use up some of the wood I have put aside throughout the last year.

I’ve had a great piece of spalted maple burl that I have been saving for boxes. Last year I used half of it to make a bowl and saved the remainder. I made three boxes from this wood and here is the first.

The top is made from book matched pieces laminated to a cherry base. I used an naturl edge piece of maple for the handle. The box is about 7” wide by 6” deep and 3” tall.

The balance of the box is made from Walnut scraps left over from my Maloof style rocker and Rohlfs Tall Back Chair
