I wanted something to do for a half hour project, so I drilled a hold in a piece of half inch ply, and cut around it with the band saw. Then I took my Dremel tool to the inside diameter until it was about a size 9 ring size. Then I cut around the outside diameter a little closer, and sanded to finish.
I was going to use Spar varnish for the finish, but instead I scrubbed it with a Brillo pad for the rustic look. It was a fun quick project.

Very cool to do it without a lathe! Awesome.

Thanks all. It was a really simple project with a drill, band saw, a Dremel, fine grit sand paper and some steel wool (Brillo). The kids love it, and I think I will be making more now.
