This was created as a holiday gift for my wife and mine’s closest friend. She’s a yoga instructor and a meditation lover and this sign is special to her – and millions of others the world over.
The “Om” or “Omkara” sign is special to many of the religions and belief systems that practice meditation as part of their mantra. Google “Wiki Om Sign” for more information on this if you are so inclined.
The piece is cut from solid aromatic cedar and stands six inches high and is around 5/8” thick. It was made to sit on a desk or a thin shelf, which explains the base.
The “powdery” looking areas are tiny clear crystals of resin that come to the surface of the wood after sanding. They are invisible except under a camera’s flash or something similar. I imagine they would glow under a blacklight! ;-)
Finish consisted of a long soak in lemon oil.
We exchanged gifts last night as she can’t be with us on Xmas – she really loved it!
Happy Holidays everyone!
