Project Information
This table measures 56×5 1/2×21 1/2 inches. Yes, only five and a half inches wide. It is a little "tippy" but is made to fit between a sofa and a window. These measurements were specifically requested by my son and the obvious limitation was known in advance.
Construction is simple and straightforward. All the walnut is from old cutoffs and is at least 40 years old. The top started out as a 4/4 piece of lumber that ended up just under a half inch in thickness by the time I got it flat and straight enough to use. No wonder it was still laying around after all of these years.
I used loose tenon joinery for the aprons (rails). Thanks to the people who make the Mortise Pal jig, I really love this device. No metal in the table, just wood and Titebond II.
I will put a bow on it and give it to Santa for delivery.
