Pistol hide

Made this for a friend at work. He works midnights and wanted his wife to have easy acess to a pistol but keep it out of sight . So I designed this pistol hide that looks like a picture hanging on the wall. The frame is 1.25” thick it holds a 11×14 picture . The box is 3.5” deep and 14”wide and sets inside a hole that has to be cut in the wall. It is made of oak with a wipe on poly to finish it off . When sliding open the frame is 1/16” away from the wall.

Very clever! I am certain this will be copied by quite a few LJ’ers.

I love this design! I can think of more than a few things that I may want to keep in a photo frame like that. The “sliding door” style is so much nicer than a hinge.. and a lot less obvious!

I had plans to build something similar but with hinges. You’ve completely changed my mind. : ) Thanks!

Great build!

Well just like others on here I’m going to have to make some of those. That is cool. Thx for sharing and what a cool idea. Very discrete!
