this is a christmas gift for the inlaws. ambrosia maple culls I got free with cabinet parts turned skirts I got for free. I have about 8 hours in it including 4 coats laquer. the finish will be buffed out and waxed in a couple weeks. I stained it with some minway stain that has been in the shop for years. not sure the color because the lable is no longer readable. between the spalting and the ambrosia its some beutifull wood.

Beautiful Sir! You make me smile. Between your avatar and then describing a beautiful table that you made absolutely for free including the finish, for the in-laws. And for Christmas in May no less. “I’m not going to spend a bleeping nickel on your parents”.

You have done them justice with beautiful wood and a labor of love.

heheehhe we have a local sawyer that comes to town with lumber about once a month. some is air dried and some is kiln dried but most is green. sometimes I buy some and sometimes when money is tight I just go to see whats left over when the vultures get done pickin the best parts. the ones nodody wants are called culls and the scavengers such as myself take it so he doesnt have to haul it back to the mill. its a service we supply so he saves some gas! lol…. :-] usually the culls are warped and twisted or not consistantly sawn but for small projects they can be used. I cut out the bad spots then think of a use for whats left over. If I had to go to the BORG for lumber I would have to sell the shop to pay the lumber bill!~ thanks for all the kind words.

Skeez, You have got to take more pictures of the table and post them here. That table is so nice in the pics. I would love to see a professional picture of that in a magazine. Maybe you should submit it to Fine woodworking.
