I’ve been lurking here at LJ for some time all the while admiring (and occasionally posting kudos on) numerous projects posted by many talented craftspeople. During that time I have been working on my first furniture project and am proud to finally share it with you all.
This table is made of birch and finished with wiping poly and wax. The table is based on a design of another seen online and the butcher blockish top and colors match our kitchen table and floors. I worked on it nearly every night for a couple of months for an hour or two at a time. It has been a great experience learning the skills and acquiring quality used tools on my limited budget. My “shop” is my side of our two car garage that still needs to house my car at night now that the cold weather is here. I guess I’m trying to say this was done with the most basic of novice skills and space.
While building the table has been extremely gratifying, the real payoff was seeing my wife’s expression when she first saw it as well our three and four year old boys sitting at and actually using it. A set of matching chairs is next.
If there’s any interest, I’ve been blogging the experience at moonlightwoodworker.blogspot.com.
Thanks for looking!
