Loft Bed

OK this is not supposed to be a fancy fine furniture thing. This was something for my son to be meet his wonderful personality!
He wanted a loft style bed but really hated his bunk bed. Watching his favorite show Drake and Josh this idea hit me. I wanted him to still be able to hang out under his bed but the bunk bed he always said that it was to high so 4 foot tall was the answer. The width and length was to have around 1 foot of loft past the mattress, give or take. So I made it 5 foot wide and 8 foot long.
That is alot of space underneath to do something with. Starting on the out side toward the center of the room. 1 side is a book case of sorts. While I have seen many thing I cant believe how much I fell in love with a book case made out of 2X4’s!!
The other side of it is a small closet. Added in a simple 1.5” dowel to the top and instant more cloths room. Why a closet in the loft bed? The wife thought it would be great.
Between the book case and the opening where the couch is there is toy box of sorts built right in.
Now the couch in there. You have to have something to sit on because on the right as you look it from the couch is a desk. His laptop fits just perfectly in it with room for his mouse. Because I had some white board material left over from the Dart Board I did, I added that as the back wall. On the left side is what I have termed the “entertainDonment” center. Going to get a 20” flat screen for it.
I wish I could have put more pictures on here to get a better idea of it, but I out of everything I have ever built this was the most fun. At some point or another everyone in the house had a hand in helping me with this one, which has never happened before.
Thanks for looking and sorry for the long write up on it but I am just that excited about it. No dovetails, box joint, mortise and tenons, just lots of fun and screws and glue.

Looks like a cool bed kids would love. I was kind of wondering about a guard rail?

I still have to make a ladder for it and put on some rails. I work in a very small one car garage so I had to get that out of there, I could even turn around with it being in the garage so no where to work. And as far as looking like a Fort, we quit calling it a bed after awhile and started calling it Clubhouse Don.

I love it. Nice work.Loft beds have become greatly popular with parents as these beds are said to be very comfortable and the kids seem to love them. These kind of beds can add much needed space and storage to any bedroom.
