I made the American Girl School Desk for my granddaughter for Christmas. She has one of the dolls and I made her a table and chairs before (posted here). She loves playing teacher so it seemed a natural fit. The wood is burbings, or African Rosewood. WHY? The color is what I was after. I did not want to have it too light or too dark or any of those silly choices. It will get 4 coats of Watco Natural and the spray poly.

First time I have worked this wood but it seemed to do fine with all my tools. The only major probelm I had was there will be hinges on the lid and the first screw I put in snapped. Well I moved over one screw hole and drilled another set. I will insert some soft wood, like a tooth pick, in each screw hold for a little more bite.

Thanks for looking and this grampa can’t wait till Christmas morning.

Very nicely done. Your granddaughter has got to love it.

Very nice. I’d love to hear a bit about the joinery.
