Key cabinet - a Christmas gift

I’ve never made a cabinet before, but I’m pleased with the result here.
It’s streaky/tiger oak, finished with shellac followed by a hand-mixed wipe on poly.

I was tempted to dovetail the joints, but never having made a cabinet or a dovetail joint I figured combining the two was a recipe for disaster! As a result, all joints are biscuited (apart from the mitres on the face frame).

Thanks, that’s what made me go for it. Someone else rejected it for the same reason! One man’s trash is another man’s treasure I guess

You have a good eye for the wood. It’s a cabinet and not a carcass and it will be installed somewhere? We won’t tell. LOL! Practice making some jpoints then make a box?

It’s to hang on a wall, not totally sure if it’ll look quite right yet!
