Natural Edge Clock

This was part of a recent purchase of wood I made. I’m not quite sure of the wood type. It almost looks like curly/spalted Ash. That’s the best I can guess at it. I wanted to feature its natural edges so here’s what I came up with.

My wife says the hands need to be larger. I tend to agree. I may fix that before it goes up in the gallery.

Any and all comments & suggestions are more than welcome. I could use constructive criticism on this type of work. Actually, all my work. :) Thanks for looking.

Thanks Jim. I should have mentioned, it can be hung horizontally, which is probably how it will be hung. I added a 6th pic to show that.

REALLY COOL!

The wood is Super nice…

I don’t know if it’s a large Slab… or just a small piece of lumber… LOL

I might weigh a few pounds pounds… or, it may not… (???)

Sure looks good though!!

Thank you.

I love spalted ash. has a tremendous amount of character. I really like the whole idea.

I suggest you add few more clocks and time them according to major cities around the world like NY, Frankfort, LA or Sydney and call it Time Zone clock. It is nice clock.

Nice piece of wood .
I would make some simple hands from a darker wood and carve some sort of dial into the plank inlaid with some bark or the like to keep it all natural .

I love that piece of wood! I would probably put some walnut plugs at each hour. You could make 3 of these from that one slab and hang them vertically. You said you wanted comments, suggestion, and constructive criticism and those are mine. Still watching my drive!

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. It is about 50” long. I had thought about 357 bullet casings for the hour markers. I kinda like the idea of Walnut better though. I’m looking for larger hands. I like the idea of different time zones, but not for this one. Unless the buyer asks for it. Again, thank you all for the suggestions.

Very nice clock!

I also think darker-wood-colored plugs would look nice as hour markers. You could make the 12,3,6,9’s as diamonds or something, and the rest round.

Anyway, keep up the good work!
