I found a neat site that makes/sells these miniature military covers and thought I would add a little spice to some coin displays. The hats fit in your hand, very neat.

That is a nice display, I’ve never seen one like this before…

AlB….I’ve been using a DeWalt buscuit jointer to make my slots….makes a nice curved end to the slots…provided I don’t run off the end, and the groove size is perfect for the average coin.

Pete,
I’ll have to give that a try. I’m looking at making a goat for a Chief friend and wanted to make coin slots in the goat’s back….I’ll have to experiment with the biscuit jointer. What is the thickness of your jointer’s blade kerf? I normally make my slots 1/4” x 1/4”. I’ll give your idea a try…..

Pete,
Forgot to mention, I just ordered/recieved some cool mustang pen kits…...I got them for some felllow mustangs here in the office….I’ll post some pics when I get them put together and turned. If you make pens, you will like these for sure.

Very clever design. I love the miniature hat and link to their site. My question is: “where do we get the insignia device?”
do they sell them too? That is such a cool project. Great post.

Bradford,
I bought mine at the base uniform shop but I bet if you call him he would provide for the additional cost. If you don’t have a base close, you should be able to buy online. If you are looking for Navy, let me know because I may have an old one in a drawer I could send you.
