Earlier this year my nephew was out for a visit and we went fossil hunting (this area is well known for fossils). As per norm the new guy will either find something great or strike right out. well within an hour or so the nephew had unearthed this large chunk of petrified wood. (in 5yrs of fossiling I have only found a 4”long peice)
Measures about 16”long and on the small end you can still see impressions of bark. There is probably a way to find out what type of species its related to but I don’t have the experience or tools to do that.
Strapped to a piece of Maple that was headed for the fire bin with SS wire.
I hope he likes it.

What a great way to show off the find … great display.

Wonderful find. It is likely not Inhabited Island?? At us everything was already found and taken away. I rejoice that flooded (maryonny, fumed. moraine ) wood (tree) don’t touch. If learn the real price, will pull out everything. LOL….
