The wife said to me one day,”honey, we need new end tables”. I said okay I’ll build them, what kind do you want? Then she said,” let’s just buy them.” Utter shock ensued. What?! Here I was a small fortune in tools and materials not including the time I have under my belt learning new skills all to be wasted in a furniture store looking crappy cheap tables. Well….after about week of badgering her to death, she finally relented. These are the end results.
Made from solid cherry, they are my own design. We did go looking only to pick what we liked for a design. The glass top is 1/4” and fits dead flush. Legs are one piece and 1 9/16” square. Lower shelf is two pieces. Bottom part is 1/2” thick and is not a solid piece. I mitered four sections, like the top, and glued and nailed it to the shelf. Finish is also my own doing. We wanted something a little dark, so I mixed one pint of GF’s Java and one pint of Warm Cherry. Had to pre treat the wood as you know cherry will blotch. My thanks go out Eric at our local wood store for his help with the finish.
Thanks for looking. Comments and critiques welcomed

Oh, nice job! I have hesitated because of the glass inserts, but this looks great!

Good design and good details. These will become heirlooms for years to come. I had to do the same for my daughter.
