My last project was a solid body guitar which took about 6 months. Wanted to do something a little easier and use up a cherry log that my neighbor gave me. So here is a lamp that only took the weekend. The top and bottom are from the cherry and the center piece is Ash (I think, salvaged from a neighbor’s tree again.) Finished with BLO/Shellac/Wax. There was a split in the base piece of cherry that I tried to hide (The wood was dried without sealing the ends….from my neighbor as I said) but I do like the bark bits that I left on. Kind of an experiment but what the heck. Now I just need to pick a shade for it.

Beauty! I love the flare at the top. Did you get a lamp auger to drill it? I’d really like to make a lamp but the drill bits are disgustingly expensive.

I had a bit already but it only cost $12 at Lee Valley in Canada. Not sure where you are but I’m sure you can get something comparable. I did drill guide holes with a good stiff bit on both ends first as the auger bits are quite flexible.

Thanks Dave! My car does autopilot to Lee Valley. Funny I never noticed them—I thought I had their catalog memorized. Thanks for the tip on guide holes.
