Walnut and Lacewood

I bookmatched this walnut to have a piece big enough for the lid. I had a medallion all made up for the center of it, but once I saw it with the Lacewood banding I just couldn’t bring myself to cut into it.

This is yet another box that I want to keep for myself. LOL. One of these days I really will make one just for me.

Thanks for taking a look, I hope you like it.

Joey

Really is beautiful wood. Of course the craftsmanship is top notch.

Very nice Joey…Banding it with the lacewood added a really nice accent. Making a box just for yourself sound good in theory but never seems to work in reality. I have made several boxes for myself that I ended up selling after making something else I ended up liking better. The same happens with my wife…I always tell her to keep whatever boxes she likes and she swaps them out when a new favorite comes along…

Another masterpiece Joey!

Very nice, Joey! Great wood selection, really like the design and scale/dimension of it, and as usual great craftsmanship. I wish I had your artistic flair!

Joey, nice call on skipping the medallion. The lacewood is a beautiful trim. The integral handle works well and looks nice. Now how about a couple of pictures showing what the inside looks like too. I want to see how things work. Beautiful job on this. Aren’t boxes more fun than furniture?

Thanks everyone.

Al, as always, I haven’t decided on a fabric for the liner. This is just a simple hinge pin set up like a lot of my boxes. I’ve documented it in a blog somewhere along the way. Next year I plan to dedicate more time to the interior of my boxes. Boxes are a whole lot more fun, but you build what your client asks for. While I do enjoy building furniture, my shop is to small to make it flow. I spent more time on the chest of drawers trying to make room to do the next step than actually working. Oh well, I don’t see my garage getting bigger anytime soon, so I will make it work.

Another great Joey box! The bookmatched walnut looks super but the lacewood trim is gorgeous. Since I can’t seem to sell any boxes, I have LOTS for myself!
